ABOUT US
The echo network is a social innovation partnership with the specific focus of increasing trust between sectors, increasing the value of science for society, and instilling a sense of responsibility in everyone for our human and environmental ecosystems. Initiated by the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India in 2019, we have built a 2400-member international community spanning 45 countries that connects communities, organizations, businesses, and academia to establish communities of practice that learn from each other, co-create standard solutions and iteratively enhance solutions through regular interaction and evaluation.
WHAT WE DO
Our Founder & Global Director, Shannon Olsson, talks about how the echo network is an experiment to establish communities of practice for our sustainable development goals on a global scale. The echo model is a deliberate, collaborative approach that leverages the scientific process to build trust among community members through observing community needs, identify shared goals and current efforts across our network, and fill knowledge gaps to address those community needs that are co-created with our communities and network members.

Sustainability Ambassadors
Global Exchange (SAGE)
The SAGE Senior Ambassadors program is a 10-week hybrid program starting in June 2024 for Indian and International Masters students from social, natural, physical, and engineering sciences, consisting of an immersive and interactive program to understand cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary research surrounding current on-ground issues in India.

Prof. Shannon B Olsson
Global Director
All life on Earth interacts through the language of chemistry. Prof. Shannon B Olsson is a chemical ecologist who listens to nature’s chemical conversations across India’s diverse ecosystems. A Fulbright Scholar, Ramanujan and INK Fellow, Shannon’s research has been featured by CNN, Inverse, Cosmos, TEDx, Syntalk, Sci-Illustrate, Dublin Science Gallery, V&A London, Chemical and Engineering News, and the DST Science Express train.

Her love for nature’s communication is what brought her to conceptualise the echo network with the Principal Scientific Adviser in 2018. Echo represents the two things Shannon enjoys most - Nature and Communication.
Shannon loves spending time with her two loves - her husband Petter, and her daughter Grace. They teach her the meaning of empathy and trust every day.
