INDIA IS CALLING
Thousands of us across the country are raising our voices for a better future for our human and environmental ecosystems - in classrooms, living rooms, cafes, courtrooms, and boardrooms. Are you one of them? If you are, we are listening. We strive to unite voices of tomorrow through collaborative scientific research. Because the future of India is us. Together.
This is what makes the echo network unique. There is no precedence for such a network anywhere in the world. We are the architects of a new platform to change how science is embedded in our modern society.
OUR GOALS
To establish an interactive network of individuals across sectors and countries who exchange ideas regarding real-world issues
To perform scientific research that brings together governmental, industrial, academic, and private sectors
To create a new generation of scientists without borders who think and act across sectors and disciplines
Our mission
To build a close-knit and collaborative community where bright minds can tackle real-world problems in human and environmental ecosystems
Our promise
Every organism on our planet is calling to us. We promise to listen to our society and our natural world and facilitate scientific research for a better tomorrow
Our essence
We are the science that listens with an open heart
Together with our partners, we are the architects of a new platform to change how science is embedded in society. We hope that our unique social innovation partnership will inspire other efforts to tackle real-world problems in human and environmental ecosystems both in India and across the world. Our methods are, therefore, as important as our results. Shannon discusses our strategy and how you can play an important role.

Unilever has been at the forefront of both advocacy and action to find solutions to these problems which are affordable, scalable, sustainable, and profitable. We have further stepped up our response to climate and nature crisis with bold actions by delivering net zero emissions by 2039 for all our products, ensuring a deforestation-free supply chain and empowering farmers and smallholders to protect and regenerate nature. We have also announced creating a dedicated €1 billion Climate & Nature Fund.
In this context, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. is very proud to be a key part of the echo network set up by the PSA to the Govt. of India, to provide a template for increasing research, knowledge, and awareness of Indian ecology and the environment across the industry, government, private, and academic sectors through multidisciplinary & interdependent partnerships.
LEADERSHIP TEAM

Prof. Shannon B Olsson
Director
All life on Earth interacts through the language of chemistry. Prof. Shannon B Olsson is a chemical ecologist who listens to nature’s chemical conversations across India’s diverse ecosystems. A Fulbright Scholar, Ramanujan and INK Fellow, Shannon’s research has been featured by CNN, Inverse, Cosmos, TEDx, Syntalk, Sci-Illustrate, Dublin Science Gallery, V&A London, Chemical and Engineering News, and the DST Science Express train.
Her love for nature’s communication is what brought her to conceptualise the echo network with the Principal Scientific Adviser in 2018. Echo represents the two things Shannon enjoys most - Nature and Communication. Shannon loves spending time with her two loves - her husband Petter, and her daughter Grace. They teach her the meaning of empathy and trust every day.
